AMVETS at the IMS for the Indianapolis 500 Race
Commander Randy Rouse delivers American Flags to be given away at IMS at the 500 Festival this Memorial Day. Look for these flags being waived on race day and watch on ABC and remember what Memorial Day is about.
Our Most Vulnerable Veterans Need Your Voice
Yesterday, AMVETS shared its deep concerns about the President's proposed budget which calls for rounding down Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) for veterans, and cutting Individual Unemployability (IU) disability benefits for seriously disabled service-connected veterans who are 65 and older. Today, we are asking you to not be silent on this issue, and to send the prefilled letter to your Members of Congress - or you can delete and write exactly what is on your mind. On this Memorial Day weekend, we honor our fallen - and will fight to ensure that the promises made to those they served beside are kept. Take Action Click Here
Countless veterans are currently suffering from life-threatening illnesses that are a result of exposure to asbestos, a material that was commonly used in hundreds of military applications, products, and ships because of its resistance to fire. Veterans who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma even qualify for special benefits from the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs. For more information Click Here
Veterans diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of active duty are entitled to benefits from the federal government Click Here
Please disseminate this information to Veterans that are referred to Choice, and distribute far and wide.
All, please be aware of a VCP program scam that is currently happening. We called the FAKE number this morning, and they are redirecting Veterans because "the system is down, you are being redirected to a promotional number, where you are being offered a $100 gift card." It then goes on to ask the Veteran for a Credit Card number. Please ensure Veterans are aware of this scam, and that the VCP is 1-866 not 1-800. Thank you
The Proposed Changes to the Department By-Laws
The National Desert Storm Memorial Area 1
The National Desert Storm Memorial Area 1 Authorization Bill is being introduced in the United States Senate on November 10, 2016. Your Senators need to hear from you! In honor of all Persian Gulf Veterans, and AMVETS National Commander Harold Chapman, who has taken on this cause as his Commander's Project, please ask your Senators to co-sign the bill which will enable us to be one step closer to choosing a site for this memorial. As always, thank you for your support of American Veterans. For more information Click Here
Prevent Veteran and Servicemember Suicide
Every day 20+ Veterans and 1 Active Duty Soldier take their own lives. Burdened with the stigma associated with mental health issues and the military "shame" surrounding PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), they instead turn to suicide as their only option to relieve suffering. We're Veterans who understand the military mindset and training. While we are not a crisis center and don't provide direct clinical services or therapy, we do offer a high-touch service with connection to resources for many of the stresses faced: job loss, relationship issues, mental health needs, financial worries, housing and more.
